According to a report in the Nassau Guardian (1), which cited Bahamas Acting Commissioner of Corrections Doan Cleare as a source, FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried spent his first night in prison “in good spirits.”
According to the acting commissioner, SBF was spending time in the correctional facility’s hospital ward and taking his meds as prescribed. “He is alongside five other convicts in a dorm-style arrangement,” and the only people who are permitted to visit him in person are his lawyers and staff members from the American embassy.
SBF in On Prescription Medicines
The prescriptions are likely related to the health claims that SBF’s attorney Jerone Roberts made about the people he represents. According to Roberts, the discredited individual was a vegan and also struggled with attention deficit disorder (ADD), sleeplessness, and anxiety.
The attorney continued by saying that SBF wears an Emsam patch every day, takes Adderall once every four hours, and takes Zyrtec allergy medicine every day.
In the meantime, the bail application of the former CEO of FTX was denied by the Chief Magistrate, and he will continue in custody at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services (BDOCS) until February 8, 2023. This was done because the Chief Magistrate believed that he posed a risk of fleeing the country.
According to a number of accounts in the media, the circumstances of the BDOCS have been described as “brutal,” “overcrowded,” and “rat-infested.”
On the other hand, acting Commissioner Cleare stated that the facility was no longer infected with rodents.
