Nissan is not the first automobile manufacturer to submit a patent application for one of its vehicles. Several trademark registrations for Web3 have been submitted by General Motors, Ford, and Mercedes, respectively.
Four applications for the web3 trademark have been submitted by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
According to the information provided by the USPTO, the trademark applications for the company’s Infiniti, Nismo, and Nissan models were all submitted on March 7.
Earlier on, the company submitted trademark applications for some of its most well-known models, such as the SKYLINE, Z, and GTR automobiles.
According to Mike Kondoudis (1), a patent attorney, the filings show that Nissan has plans for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a non-fungible token marketplace (NFT marketplace), metaverse advertising, virtual apparel and automobiles, and other virtual commodities.
The manufacturer revealed their plans for web3 entertainment, which will include videos, photographs, artwork, audio, and collectibles that can be accessed online.
Nissan will, among other things, be equipped with a website that provides users with all of the necessary information regarding the planned Nissan NFTs. Also, Nissan is working on introducing a digital wallet for its users.
Nissan Japan Is Trying Out A Virtual Vehicle Shop As An Experiment
In the meantime, Nissan Japan is conducting research on the viability of selling cars in the metaverse. The subsidiary announced on March 8 that it would begin conducting demos in its online store, the Nissan Hype Lab.
Customers are able to “learn, consult, road test, and buy Nissan vehicles” at any time from their own computers or mobile devices by visiting the virtual store.
Clients can create avatars for themselves and interact with virtual sales personnel during normal business hours.
The experiment will take place over three months, and the investigation results will be summarized on June 30.
Nissan Japan stated it would also seek to close orders for automobiles and finish the agreements through this online sales office.
Trademark Applications from Automobile Manufacturers on Web3
Nissan is not the first automobile manufacturer to submit a patent application for one of its vehicles. Several trademark applications for Web3 have been submitted by General Motors, Ford, and Mercedes, respectively.
According to Mike Kondoudis, a trademark attorney, the number of trademark applications for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), web 3 products, and cryptocurrency in 2022 increased.
This was still the case despite the crypto winter and the prolonged bad market that impacted NFT sales.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) had acquired 7,746 trademarks relating to NFTs as of January 2023. Corporate engagement in NFT and web3 may be expanding compared to the number of trademark filings in 2021, which reached its highest point of 2,087.
According to a report by Grandview, the market for the metaverse is expected to increase by an additional 240 billion dollars by 2030 (2).
Kondoudis thinks that the consistent filing of patents is a positive indication since it implies that the corporations intend to employ the applications they have patented.
